Feral Horses is an online platform that allows retail investors to invest in art by buying and trading shares of artwork
Q1. What is your project about?
Feral Horses: Feral Horses is about redefining what it’s like to interact with art and experience the art world. We want to make the interaction between human and art more inclusive and more aligned with today’s need for flexibility. This is the reason we have built a platform to co-own artworks, support emerging artists and build investment portfolio all at once by buying and selling shares of artworks. So, on one side, our users build art investment portfolios by micro-investing in their favourite artworks and, on the other side, our artists get financial support and social endorsement from the crowds. Through the co-ownership of artworks, anyone can become a young patron and meaningfully support artists.
Q2. Where did the original idea stem from?
Feral Horses: Our will to allow the crowds to enjoy art, combined with the real need for more data and information about the art market, gave birth to the Feral Horses project. We have always believed that art is for everybody, but we quickly realised that the art market is not. It is very elitist and only some happy few have access to it. While other forms of art such as high quality music or cinema are widely available to the masses, right now art is not and this was the starting point for Feral Horses.
Q3. What challenges have you experienced in your journey so far?
Feral Horses: The main challenge for anyone who operates in the art market is dealing with its opacity. The lack of transparency and reliable information are two of the main factors that make the global art market so inefficient today. We believe that new technologies and their implementations will make a significant change in the art ecosystem. Blockchain technology, for example, can allow the creation of safe and secure certificates of authenticity that follow artworks from their inception, it will help the art market to become more transparent and trustworthy. That’s why we, at Feral Horses, have a partnership in place with Codex Protocol, a blockchain-based cadastre for art. Through the recording of data on a blockchain protocol, people will be able to see the history of an artwork and get information about it and about its price, in order to take informed decisions.
Q4. What is that you are trying to achieve by the end of the year?
Feral Horses: In order to make our platform a meeting point where artists, investors, galleries and art enthusiasts can easily find information and connect, we are planning on doing more and more collaborations with physical events such as art fairs and galleries. We also have in plan to announce more exciting partnerships with commercial art platforms and academic institutions.
Q5. What do you want the legacy of your project to be known for?
Feral Horses: The founding idea and ultimate goal of Feral Horses is to bring art and people closer together. We offer to our users the possibility to co-own artworks, play an active role in the art market, and impact contemporary artists career in a meaningful way. We are growing in order to become an aggregator that links the existing market players such as museum, art fairs, galleries, dealers and artists with the general public of art lovers that are willing to be part of the art world.
In addition to that, by recording all the transaction data and by providing people with more information, we can make the industry more transparent, hence more efficient!
Q6. Where can people find you?
Feral Horses: The best way is to visit Feral Horses to see the artworks we have. There, people can directly ask us questions via our chatbox. We have also recently launched a weekly newsletter for people who want to understand the art market, that is 100% jargon free and can be read in less than 2 minutes.
