The 2012 ADAC GT Masters season was a thrilling and competitive one, with many close battles and exciting races. The championship was decided in the final round at Hockenheim, where Asch and GÃtz clinched the title by finishing second in the first race and fourth in the second race. They scored a total of 194 points, 14 more than their closest rivals Diego Alessi and Daniel Keilwitz, who drove a Corvette Z06 for Callaway Competition. Alessi and Keilwitz won six races out of 16, the most of any pair, but also had some bad luck and inconsistency. The third place in the standings went to Dominik Baumann and Harald Proczyk, who drove a Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG GT3 for HEICO Motorsport. They scored 156 points and one race win.
The 2012 season also saw some notable drivers and teams joining or returning to the series. Heinz-Harald Frentzen, a former Formula One driver and runner-up in the 1997 world championship, made his debut in the ADAC GT Masters with Callaway Competition. He partnered with Andreas Wirth for most of the season and scored two podium finishes. Young Driver AMR, a successful team in the FIA GT1 World Championship, entered two Aston Martin V12 Vantages for Christoffer Nygaard, Kristian Poulsen, Ferdinand Stuck and Johannes Stuck. They achieved one pole position and two podiums. Schubert Motorsport, a BMW factory-supported team that won the 24 Hours of Dubai and the 24 Hours of Spa in 2011, also joined the series with two BMW Z4 GT3s for Claudia HÃrtgen, Dominik Schwager, Abdulaziz Al Faisal and Mirko Bortolotti. They won one race and finished fourth in the teams' standings.
The 2012 ADAC GT Masters season was also marked by some controversies and incidents. The most serious one occurred in the second race at Sachsenring, where a massive pile-up involving 13 cars caused a red flag and several injuries. The crash was triggered by a collision between Frank Kechele's Corvette and Christian Abt's Audi at the start-finish straight. The race was restarted after a long delay and shortened to 30 minutes. Another controversy happened in the first race at NÃrburgring, where Alessi and Keilwitz were disqualified for overtaking under yellow flags. They appealed the decision and were reinstated as winners after a lengthy process that lasted until October. 061ffe29dd
